Five members of the Hagawane family- Rajendra Hagawane (father-in-law), Shashank Hagawane (husband), Lata Hagawane (mother-in-law), Sushil Hagawane (brother-in-law), and Karishma Hagawane (sister-in-law) have been arrested in connection with Vaishnavi’s death. The family, residents of Bhukum village near Mulshi, are facing serious allegations not only for their alleged harassment of Vaishnavi but also for their wealth and lifestyle.
Lavish Wedding of Shashank and Vaishnavi, Massive Dowry Demanded
A video of Vaishnavi and Shashank’s wedding has gone viral, showcasing the extravagant ceremony. The ceremony reportedly cost crores of rupees. Prominent political figures, including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, attended the wedding. Photographs show Pawar handing over the keys to a Fortuner SUV to Shashank as part of the wedding “gifts” from the bride’s family. The Kasapte family, Vaishnavi’s parents, provided 51 tolas of gold, 7 kg of silver utensils, a brand-new Toyota Fortuner SUV as dowery. Despite this, the Shashank Hagawane and his family reportedly demanded an additional ₹2 crore for land purchases. Vaishnavi’s parents revealed that she was often sent back home just to demand for more money. They reportedly gave ₹50,000 to ₹75,000 on multiple occasions and even bought a ₹1.5 lakh phone for Shashank just last month.
Hagawane Family’s Source of Income
The case has raised public curiosity about how did the Hagawane family, accused of financial greed, have so much money in the first place? Rajendra Hagawane is politically active and has contested elections, although unsuccessfully. His political affiliations gave him local influence. Shashank and Sushil Hagawane, the sons, are both involved in the construction business. Nilesh Chavan, a close associate of the family who had illegally kept Vaishavi’s 9-month-old baby after her death and currently absconding, is also active in real estate and construction. Agriculture and a washing center are said to be other sources of income for the family. Karishma Hagawane, the daughter of Lata and Rajendra Hagawane, is a fashion designer with a boutique located in Pune’s Kothrud area.
The more revelations can be made in this case as all five accused have been arrested. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are also examining the financial transactions of the Hagawane family.
