According to police sources, Nilesh Chavan is a close associate of the Hagawane family and was accused of illegally keeping Vaishnavi’s 9-month-old baby and threatening Vaishnavi’s family.
According to official sources, five dedicated police teams were deployed by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate to trace Chavan’s whereabouts. Police had launched a multi-state manhunt, extending their operations to neighboring countries, including Nepal. His arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation. Police teams from both Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad were working round the clock, with search operations reportedly conducted in Pune, Mumbai, Konkan, Karnataka, and even Goa.
This arrest comes after the Pune court had recently issued a Standing Warrant against him, allowing police to seize his assets if he failed to appear. However, Chavan is now in police custody. He will be brought back to Pune by late tonight under tight security and will be presented before the court for further legal proceedings. Vaishnavi Hagawane’s mysterious death had sparked widespread outrage across Maharashtra, drawing attention to issues of domestic abuse, dowry demands, and threats to the victim’s family.
