Sinhagad Institute Sealed: PMC has sealed multiple properties of Sinhagad Technical Institute. The action was taken against unpaid property tax amounting to ₹345 crore. Despite owning 128 properties in Pune, Sinhagad Institute was largely protected from coercive action by court orders, with exceptions only in Kondhwa Bk., Ambegaon Bk., and Erandwane. PMC seized the Erandwane property which had unpaid dues of ₹47.43 crore. The action was taken on December 6, 2024. The institute failed to pay the tax due despite earlier orders of making payment of ₹12 crore. After this, PMC also sealed properties in Kondhwa Bk and Wadgaon Bk following legal advice.
PMC is carrying out a tax recovery drive across city. The action taken against Sinhagad Institute is a part of the same. The PMC is issuing seizure notices to defaulters. Local politicians have criticized PMC for allegedly targeting small businesses and sparing large institutions. However, PMC has given reply to these allegations and has blamed legal hurdles as the reason for delays in action against bigger defaulters.
