Apart from Shivajinagar, other parts of eastern Pune also witnessed unusually high temperatures. 37.6°C in Magarpatta, 38°C in Wadgaonsheri, and Lohegaon 40.4°C. The normal temperature raised by 3.2°C. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s highest temperature was recorded in Chandrapur, measuring at 42.4°C.

Pune has recorded 1.2°C and 2.2°C above normal temperature with January and February already. By March 30, the average temperature stood at 37.5°C, which is 2°C above the seasonal norm.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Pune on April 1 and 2. IMD has predicted cloudy weather along with light rainfall, thunder, and lightning. Other districts in Konkan, Marathwada, and northern Maharashtra are also under alert.

SD Sanap, Senior Meteorologist of IMD Pune stated that a trough and wind confluence over central and adjoining parts of Maharashtra at the lower tropospheric level is influencing the weather. As a result, several parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, are likely to receive rainfall.

Anupam Kashyapi Former IMD Pune Weather and forecasting head added that the combination of high temperatures and moisture incursion is creating atmospheric instability, leading to the possible formation of cumulonimbus clouds in the afternoon.

Temperatures will continue to rise as predicted by the experts. People are advised to take precautions against heat-related health issues and take necessary precautions.
