Pune has witnessed massive urban expansion, with high-rise buildings rising in the suburbs, along highways, and even in villages on the city’s outskirts. The promise of scenic views and peaceful living continues to attract thousands from across Maharashtra and India, especially retirees, job-seekers, and students. Owning a home in Pune has become a symbol of stability and comfort.
However, behind the glossy brochures and attractive ads lies a grim reality. Many homebuyers, especially from the middle class, have been left waiting indefinitely for possession, or worse — without refunds or homes at all. Most have poured their life savings into these projects, often through EMIs and loans, only to be duped.
Police data reveals that in these 131 cases, crores of rupees were swindled through false promises, project delays, lack of permissions, and violation of MOFA guidelines. In some complaints, police investigations have found no direct monetary fraud, but procedural lapses and non-compliance remain rampant.
What begins as the pursuit of a dream home often ends in police complaints, legal battles, and financial ruin. While the real estate skyline of Pune continues to grow, so do the stories of shattered dreams and pending justice.
