The robbery occurred on April 8, 2023, when two masked individuals entered a garment store near Ajanta Chowk in Satara, threatened the staff with firearms, and fled with ₹1 lakh in cash on a motorcycle. Initial investigations by Satara police led to the recovery of a stolen two-wheeler in Pune’s Kothrud area, which was linked to a terror-related case under investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). This connection prompted the ATS to take over the case.

Khan was brought from Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail to Pune under tight security and produced before a special court, which remanded him to ATS custody until June 16. He is the fourth person arrested in this case. The ATS is investigating Khan’s role in financing and supplying weapons to the previously arrested suspects. Additionally, authorities are probing his travel to Muscat on August 12, 2022, to determine if it was related to terror activities or recruitment for ISIS.
The investigation aims to uncover a broader network of terror funding and arms trafficking potentially linked to radical elements within the state.
