Pune : Pune police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the alleged suicide of a 15-year-old school student. The victim, a Class 10 student, reportedly took his own life on October 15 after being sexually assaulted and threatened by the accused.
The victim’s father filed an FIR on Monday, alleging that his son had been receiving threatening messages to circulate a compromising video. As per the information received, the victim had allegedly died by suicide by hanging at their house on October 15. The police investigation identified the 26-year-old sales executive as the prime suspect.
According to the police, the victim had met the accused outside a mall and was subsequently lured to a secluded location where the sexual assault took place. The accused allegedly recorded the incident and used it to blackmail the victim.
The relentless harassment and threats are believed to have driven the teenager to take the extreme step. Initially, the police had registered a case of unnatural death, but after a thorough investigation, they added charges of abetment to suicide and provisions of the POCSO Act.
The accused has been remanded to police custody as the investigation continues.
