PCMC to Unveil Draft Development Plan For 2041: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has drafted a new development plan (DP) based on population projections for 2041. The new plan will be officially announced on Wednesday, May 14, following which objections and suggestions will be sought from citizens. According to the municipal corporation’s town planning officials, the final plan will be confirmed after hearing public feedback. The last DP for Pimpri-Chinchwad was prepared in 1997 and is set to expire on May 17, 2025. The new DP, which takes into account the city’s population growth and future infrastructure needs, has been developed by a private agency in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The same agency has also prepared detailed project reports (DPRs) for the Pavana, Indrayani and Mula river improvement projects. The DP is now in its final stages.

Work on the DP began in 2018, but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, which led to it being extended by two years. This additional deadline is set to expire in May. After the preliminary DP is made public, citizens will have 30 days to submit objections and suggestions. After reviewing all the feedback, officials will have four months to submit the final plan to the state government. If the PCMC fails to publish the DP before May 17, it will be cancelled.
