North India Braces for Summer Storms: As the final days of May unfold, weather patterns across North India are taking a sharp turn. From scorching heatwaves to sudden downpours, people across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir are witnessing nature’s unpredictable mood swing. (North India Braces for Summer Storms:)
On Thursday afternoon, residents of Delhi got a surprise break from the relentless heat as dark clouds swept in, followed by gusty winds touching speeds of nearly 46 km/h. A brief spell of rain cooled temperatures, giving much-needed relief to the city. But this is just the beginning of an intense weather spell.
According to the latest forecast, a fresh western disturbance is moving in, bringing widespread showers, lightning, and strong winds. Delhi has been placed under an orange alert for the next two days, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms expected until at least May 31. This pattern is also stretching across the NCR region, where many have already welcomed the cooler weather.

Uttar Pradesh, meanwhile, is likely to see hailstorms and powerful winds, especially in its central and eastern parts. Authorities have urged people to stay indoors during peak storm hours and secure loose objects to prevent damage. This month has also turned out to be unusually wet for the capital. Delhi has recorded 186.4 mm of rainfall in May, a figure not seen since 1901. In contrast, the average rainfall for May usually sits at around 30.7 mm.
For residents, the change in weather is both a relief and a concern. While the rains break the heat, they also bring the risk of flooding, power outages, and traffic chaos. People are advised to monitor weather alerts, avoid unnecessary travel during storms, and keep emergency supplies ready as North India rides through this wild summer transition.
