Mumbai Braces for Continued Showers: Mumbai gears up for another rainy weekend as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts light to moderate showers across the city and nearby districts. IMD has sounded a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, warning of thunderstorms along with gusty winds that could reach speeds of 40-50 km/h.
This spell of rain follows an intense surge in pre-monsoon showers. Mumbai saw over 700% more rainfall than the usual average in May, making it the city’s earliest monsoon arrival in 75 years. On a recent Monday, the Colaba observatory recorded 144 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm, while Santacruz logged 74.3 mm during the same timeframe.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) links the current weather conditions to a low-pressure system forming over the Arabian Sea. This system is now moving east-northeast across South Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and North Interior Karnataka. Although it will gradually weaken, it will still impact the weather across these regions.
Over the coming days, Mumbai can expect mostly cloudy skies along with light, on-and-off rain. Temperatures will hover between 26°C and 30°C, while winds may blow at around 15 km/h.
Authorities urge residents to stay alert and keep an eye on updated weather forecasts. People living in waterlogging-prone zones should take extra care. Daily commuters should prepare for possible delays, especially in low-lying areas where rainwater may collect. As this unusual early monsoon pattern unfolds, staying prepared and alert remains the best way to stay safe.
