Mumbai Airport Scam: An NRI businessman from Australia was recently scammed by a taxi driver at Mumbai international airport. The driver, using a fake app, charged the NRI a staggering Rs 2,800 for a mere 10-minute journey to a hotel in Vile Parle.
The incident occurred on December 15 when D Vijay, a resident of Nagpur, arrived in Mumbai. Despite the availability of prepaid taxi counters, he opted for the driver who had approached him. During the ride, the driver quoted an exorbitant fare, which Vijay paid.

Upon reaching the hotel, Vijay discovered the actual fare should have been around Rs 700. He filed a complaint with the police, who promptly arrested the driver, Vinod Goswami, based on the provided information.
This incident highlights a growing concern about fraudulent activities targeting unsuspecting travelers at the airport. The police have observed an increase in such scams, particularly during late-night hours.
To combat this issue, the police have intensified their efforts to apprehend fraudulent drivers. They have conducted undercover operations, leading to the arrest of nine such drivers within two days.
