Monsoon 2025 Knocks in Kerala: The southwest monsoon has officially arrived in India. Monsoon 2025 made landfall over Kerala eight days earlier this year. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed this news today. Before this, the monsoon had arrived early before 16 years. The same rare occurrences was recorded in 2009 and 2001, when the monsoon reached Kerala by May 23. The earliest-ever monsoon entry in India was in 1918, when it reached Kerala as early as May 11.
Alert in 15 States, Red Alert in 3
Following the early monsoon onset, the IMD has issued rain alerts across 15 states. Several regions are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds over the coming days.
Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha: Heavy rainfall is expected till May 26.
Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala (coastal regions): May witness up to 200 mm rainfall, with heavy spells forecast for the next seven days.
Red Alert in Karnataka, Goa, and Kerala
The IMD has issued red alerts for specific districts due to the threat of extremely heavy rainfall. In Karnataka, Goa and Kerala.
Karnataka: Red alert has been issued in Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru.
Goa: Red alert until May 25 due to persistent downpours.
Kerala: Red alert issued in multiple districts till May 27, marking high-risk weather conditions at the monsoon’s entry point.
