Medical Negligence Cases Pile Up at Sassoon Hospital Since 2020

Medical Negligence Cases Pile Up at Sassoon Hospital Since 2020: Over the past four years, more than 100 medical negligence complaints have remained unresolved at Sassoon General Hospital. Families of patients have accused doctors and staff of wrongful deaths, misdiagnoses, and severe treatment lapses. Yet, despite the seriousness of these complaints, investigations have moved at a snail’s pace. (Medical Negligence Cases Pile Up at Sassoon Hospital Since 2020)

The main reason behind this delay is the lack of coordination and shortage of medical experts needed to form investigation committees. These panels usually require senior doctors and forensic specialists. But most doctors already juggle packed schedules handling surgeries, outpatient duties, and teaching responsibilities which makes it difficult to prioritize committee work.

On top of that, collecting reports and patient files from different hospitals takes time. Many hospitals delay sending the required documents, adding weeks or even months to the process. Some cases date as far back as 2020, and each year adds more to the pile. In 2024 alone, over 35 new complaints came in, while the hospital continues to struggle with older ones.

One recent complaint gained attention when a woman lost her life after being denied treatment at a private hospital because she couldn’t pay the admission deposit. The case triggered legal action against the attending doctor after a Sassoon committee investigated it.

To ease the pressure, officials have started transferring some cases back to hospitals in other districts. However, public trust is wearing thin. Patient rights groups are now demanding quicker action, better staffing, and stronger accountability. Families who lost loved ones aren’t just looking for answers they want justice, and they don’t want to wait forever for it.

Sassoon Hospital faces a critical test: either step up and resolve these cases or continue letting them gather dust while patients suffer in silence.
