Kedarnath Helicopter Crash: A devastating helicopter crash near the holy Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district has claimed all seven lives on board, including a 2-year-old girl from Maharashtra and the aircraft’s pilot. The incident marks another tragic chapter in what has become an alarming series of aviation accidents in the region, being the fifth helicopter crash in just six weeks during the ongoing Chardham Yatra season.
Complete List of Victims
According to local administration officials, the seven victims have been identified as:
- Captain Rajbeer Singh Chauhan – Pilot (Jaipur)
- Vikram Rawat – BKTC resident, Rasi Ukhimath
- Vinod Devi – Uttar Pradesh resident, age 66
- Trishti Singh – Uttar Pradesh resident, age 19
- Rajkumar Suresh Jaiswal – Gujarat resident, age 41 (originally from Maharashtra)
- Shraddha Rajkumar Jaiswal – Maharashtra resident
- Kashi – Maharashtra resident, 2-year-old girl
The victims included three passengers from Maharashtra, making this tragedy particularly devastating for families from the western state who had undertaken the sacred pilgrimage to Kedarnath.
The helicopter, operated by Aryan Company, was en route to Kedarnath when it crashed between Gaurikund and Trijuginarayan due to poor weather conditions and low visibility.
Helicopter Nodal Officer Rahul Choube and District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar confirmed the accident details.
The crash was first reported by Nepali women who were cutting grass in the Gaurikund area and witnessed the incident. Immediate rescue and relief operations were launched upon receiving the information, with SDRF and NDRF teams rushing to the crash site.
Unfortunately, despite swift rescue efforts, no survivors were found among the wreckage.
Helicopter Services Suspended
Following today’s tragic accident, helicopter services to Kedarnath Dham have been immediately suspended as a precautionary measure. The suspension will remain in effect until weather conditions improve and a thorough safety review is conducted.
