According to the circular issued by the Ekvira Devi Temple Trust, devotees wearing short, revealing or Western-style clothing will not be allowed inside the temple premises. This dress code is applicable not only to visitors but also to shopkeepers and locals in the temple vicinity.
The decision, the temple authorities state, was taken to uphold the temple’s sanctity and traditional values. The rules will apply to men, women, youth, and all age groups.
Guidelines for Female Devotees:
Women and girls visiting the temple must wear sarees, salwar-kameez, kurtas, or other traditional Indian attire. Clothes must cover the entire body appropriately.
Guidelines for Male Devotees:
Men and boys must wear dhoti-kurta, pajama-kurta, pants-shirts, or Indian ethnic wear. Sleeveless tops, shorts, and ripped jeans are strictly prohibited.
The temple trust clarified that anyone found violating the dress code will be denied entry, irrespective of their background or intent of worship. The decision has sparked discussions among devotees and locals, with many supporting the move for maintaining religious decorum, while others call for flexibility considering India’s diverse dressing styles.
