Congress Winter Session

New Delhi : Ahead of the winter session of Parliament, the government convened an all-party meeting on Sunday. During the meeting, the Congress party demanded a discussion on the Adani and Manipur issues in Parliament. Additionally, opposition parties demanded discussions on pollution in North India and railway accidents.

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari stated that his party had appealed to the government to allow a discussion in Parliament on the allegations of bribery against the Adani Group. He added that his party wanted this issue to be raised first in the Parliament session on Monday. Tiwari, a Rajya Sabha member, said that this was a serious issue related to the country’s economic and security interests as the company had allegedly paid over Rs 2,300 crore to politicians and bureaucrats to secure favorable deals for its solar energy projects.

The winter session of Parliament will commence on Monday and continue until December 20. Sixteen bills, including the Wakf (Amendment) Bill, have been listed for this session. BJP president JP Nadda, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Gaurav Gogoi, along with T Shiva, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and Anupriya Patel, attended the all-party meeting convened by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

Among the pending bills is the Wakf (Amendment) Bill, which has been listed for consideration and passing after the joint committee of both Houses submitted its report to the Lok Sabha. The committee has been asked to submit its report by the end of the first week of the winter session. Opposition members of the committee are demanding an extension of the deadline for submitting the committee’s report. They have alleged that the committee’s chairman and BJP MP Jagadambika Pal is obstructing the committee’s meetings and have requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to intervene.
