Behind the Scenes Of Ceasefire : Why Did America Mediate

Behind the Scenes Of Ceasefire

Behind the Scenes Of Ceasefire: India was on the brink of South Asia war in early May 2025 after the Pahalgam terror attack, with ‘Operation Sindoor’. In the face of mounting public pressure, military planners on both sides prepared to tackle the worst situation. India fired long-range missiles into Pakistan’s Punjab province. One of the missiles hit a base of Pakistan’s secret intelligence agency ISI. In retaliation, Pakistan shot down two Indian jets and shelled the Line of Control. (Behind the Scenes Of Ceasefire)

However, behind the scenes, something different was happening. Senior military officers in Rawalpindi, Pakistan’s military headquarters, realized the seriousness of the situation. India’s attack had demonstrated its new precision strike capabilities. This threatened to escalate into a full-scale war. American intelligence had confirmed that Indian troops had reached forward bases on the western border. On May 10, 2025, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations called the Indian Director General. “We want to reduce tensions. Let’s have a ceasefire,” he said calmly. Before that, the US had been begging Pakistan for a ceasefire since midnight.

Bailout Package to Pakistan for Peace Deal
After receiving an alert from the CIA and the Pentagon, US President Donald Trump saw an opportunity. He sent Secretary of State Marco Rubio to negotiate through the back door. Trump also maintained personal contact with the capitals of both countries. India maintained its position. However, the US bent Pakistan’s position. Pakistan was discouraged by the weak economy, political isolation and China’s reluctance to intervene and preferring silence. The bailout package given to Pakistan by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is part of the peace deal, sources said.

India listened to the Pakistani official, consulted with Washington and agreed to a ceasefire. However, India put the condition of an immediate end to support for terrorism. US President Donald Trump twitted about ceasefire. One truth remained in the closed room: the Pakistani army surrendered not out of goodwill, but because it had no cards left to play.
