Annual Toll Pass Now Available for ₹3000: What Happens to FASTag?

Annual Toll Pass Now Available for ₹3000:“If a driver pays ₹50 at one toll plaza and crosses 200 times a year, that adds up to ₹10,000 annually. With this new system, they will now save around ₹7,000 every year,” said Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, while announcing a major reform in India’s toll collection system. Under this plan, drivers can purchase a prepaid pass, which remains valid for one year and grants them unlimited access through toll plazas on national highways. The initiative particularly benefits those who travel long distances daily, such as office commuters, business professionals, and tourists.

This move comes as part of the government’s effort to promote ease of travel, reduce congestion at toll booths, and bring more uniformity to the toll collection process. Officials believe the ₹3,000 flat fee will encourage digital adoption and better compliance, while also providing transparency and predictability to highway users.

Regarding the current FASTag system, authorities confirmed that it will continue to function for users who do not opt for the new annual pass. FASTag will remain mandatory for commercial vehicles and those not covered under the unlimited pass scheme.

The ministry will soon roll out detailed guidelines, including the registration process for the annual toll pass. Gadkari emphasized that the reform aligns with the government’s vision to make highway travel seamless, affordable, and future-ready. This policy shift not only aims to save time and money but also reinforces India’s commitment to smart and efficient transportation systems.
