Alibaug Ferry Service Monsoon 2025: Gateway of India to Mandwa Ferry Services Suspended

Alibaug Ferry Service Monsoon 2025: Ferry services between Mumbai’s Gateway of India and Alibaug’s Mandwa will be suspended starting May 25, 2025. The decision has been taken due to monsoon-related safety concerns. This is an annual safety protocol which will remain in effect for approximately three months. (Alibaug Ferry Service Monsoon 2025)

Every year, the ferry services are typically halted in the first week of June each year. But this year’s closure has been preponed due to strong winds and heavy rainfall reported along the Konkan coast over the past few days. Maritime officials confirmed that the early suspension was deemed necessary to ensure the safety of thousands of daily commuters and tourists. According to the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB), the ferry services are expected to resume from September 1, 2025.

The Gateway to Mandwa ferry route is a vital water transport corridor, used by nearly 3,000 passengers daily. This number often rise to 8,000 to 10,000 on weekends and public holidays. The route is operated by private ferry service providers including PNP, Maldar, and Ajanta, running services from 6 AM to 8 PM. These ferries are not only a popular choice among tourists but also an essential mode of transport for local residents commuting between Mumbai and Alibaug.

Ro-Ro Services
Despite the suspension of regular passenger ferry services, the Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) ferry service between Mandwa and Bhaucha Dhakka in Mumbai will remain operational during the monsoon. This alternative continues to serve as a reliable travel option for both vehicles and passengers during the seasonal suspension.

The Maharashtra Maritime Board emphasized that the temporary halt in services is a precautionary measure to avoid maritime accidents during the unpredictable and rough monsoon season. The board reassured passengers that all services would resume as per schedule once weather conditions stabilize post-monsoon.
