The incident occurred on June 12 near Ahmedabad. The fatalities include 241 passengers onboard and 34 people on the ground, making it one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent times. 260 Bodies Identified via DNA Testing
According to Gujarat Health Department officials, all the bodies have been recovered. DNA testing has confirmed the identities of 260 deceased individuals, while six more have been identified through facial recognition. Among the victims are 120 men, 124 women, and 16 children. As of now, 256 bodies have been handed over to their respective families, while identification of the remaining ones through DNA is still underway.

The ill-fated Air India Dreamliner, bound for London, crashed just seconds after takeoff. The aircraft crashes into the residential campus of B.J. Medical College near Meghani Nagar, right outside the airport premises. Out of 242 passengers onboard, only one British-Indian national seated on 11A survived the crash.

Black Box Under Investigation
The cause of the crash remains undetermined. Authorities are currently analyzing the aircraft’s black box to retrieve critical data. When asked about reports claiming the black box might be sent abroad due to damage, Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu dismissed it as speculation. “The black box is currently in India and is being examined by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB),” he clarified.

Air India Will Reduce Wide-Body Aircraft
In the wake of the tragedy, Air India has announced a series of safety and preventive measures. Notably, the airline has decided to reduce the use of wide-body aircraft on international routes by 15% until mid-July as a precautionary step.
