Waterlogging Hits Hinjewadi IT Park: Employees Demand Work From Home

Waterlogging Hits Hinjewadi IT Park: Heavy rains inundated Hinjewadi’s IT park in Pune today, flooding roads and IT campuses with ankle‑ to knee‑deep water. Employees found themselves stranded on slippery pathways, struggling to reach office buildings and accessing only partially submerged parking lots. (Waterlogging Hits Hinjewadi IT Park)

Staffers at major companies lodged complaints with infrastructure authorities and local civic bodies. They demanded temporary work-from-home (WFH) arrangements until drainage systems fixed effectively. Many highlighted safety concerns around commuting in flooded roads, warning of potential accidents and vehicle breakdowns.

Traffic ground to a halt at entry points to Phase III, where mopeds, bikes, and vehicles waded through collected water in long queues. Ride‑hailing drivers like Ola and Uber refused to enter the area, citing too much risk. A tech‑park employee captured the experience on video and shared it on internal forums, saying: “We walked more than half‑a‑kilometre through muddy water just to reach our offices.”

Local representatives stepped in to assess the damage. They confirmed that ongoing construction in the vicinity has blocked regular drainage paths, contributing to excessive water retention during peak rains. Engineers immediately began plans to clear clogged drains, raise curb heights, and replenish pump capacities.

IT park management informed tenants that they activated WFH routines today and scheduled deep cleaning of campus walkways. They also promised to coordinate with PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) to resolve infrastructure deficiencies and submit cost‑estimates for long‑term drainage improvements.

Industry leaders advise that businesses in flood‑prone zones should develop emergency preparedness strategies—including scheduled remote working and backup transport during monsoons since employee safety outweighs presence at physical work sites.

Commuters suggested rapid public‑transport responses, like using waterproof electric buses or shuttle services operating along elevated roads. They asked civic authorities to prioritize drainage works in key corridors like Hinjewadi–Talawade Road, where repeated waterlogging brings regular disruption.

As monsoon continues in full force, Pune’s IT employees, business owners, and civic officials must coordinate closely to ensure minimal workplace disruption, stronger flood defenses, and safer commutes during critical months.
