Initially closed in March 2025, the bridge was set to reopen on June 6. However, with only 20% of the work completed, MahaMetro has requested an extension from the Pune Traffic Police and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Once approved, the bridge will remain closed for nearly five months.
The footbridge aims to connect Sadashiv Peth directly to the upcoming Deccan Metro Station, improving pedestrian access. While the project promises long-term convenience, the slow pace of construction has sparked frustration among residents and commuters. Bhide Bridge is crucial for Pune’s daily traffic flow, especially for two-wheeler riders. The route handles 2.5 to 3 lakh vehicles daily, offering direct access between the city’s Peth areas and western suburbs. With its closure, surrounding roads have seen increased congestion and delays.
Historically, Bhide Bridge is only closed during the monsoon due to rising Mutha River levels or dam water releases. This prolonged closure for infrastructure work is unusual, further inconveniencing regular users. Now public expectation rests on MahaMetro’s timely delivery of the pending work.
