Rain Returns to Pune: IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms

Rain Returns to Pune: Rain returned to Pune this week, giving residents a much-needed break from the heat. On Wednesday, several parts of the city saw light to moderate showers. The weather department has issued a yellow alert for Pune, warning of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightning over the next few days. (Rain Returns to Pune)

The rain wasn’t limited to the city center. Areas like Hadapsar, Shivajinagar, NDA campus, and Pashan received more than 16 mm of rain. Nimgiri topped the list with 25 mm, followed by Malin and Kurvande. Even regions like Baramati, Chinchwad, and Rajgurunagar got their share of the showers, cooling down the temperature and refreshing the atmosphere.

Weather experts say this change is due to a cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat. This system is pulling in moisture from the Arabian Sea and affecting the surrounding regions, including Pune. Although no heavy rainfall is expected, the forecast mentions scattered thunderstorms and moderate rain, especially in the evening and night hours.

The alert covers several districts, not just Pune. Places like Satara, Kolhapur, Sangli, Thane, and Mumbai are also on watch for similar weather patterns. Wind speeds may rise to 30–50 km/h during storms, making it important for people to stay alert.

The India Meteorological Department expects the rainy spell to continue until at least June 6. Residents are advised to check daily weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during storm warnings, and be careful in areas prone to waterlogging.

Pune’s weather has shifted into a pre-monsoon mode, and this burst of rain is just a glimpse of what the season may bring.
