Maharashtra Boosts Green Tourism: In a major push towards eco-friendly tourism, the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has launched an ambitious project to install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across 49 of its resorts statewide. Cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Nashik are leading the way as key beneficiaries of this green initiative. (Maharashtra Boosts Green Tourism)
This move is designed to support the rising number of EV users by integrating charging infrastructure into popular tourist destinations. With two charging units at each resort, capable of charging four vehicles at a time, travelers can now explore the state without worrying about running out of battery. MTDC plans to lease around 50 square meters of space per resort to private operators who will set up and manage the charging stations. These operators will work on a 10-year lease, with the possibility of extending it by another decade, ensuring long-term support for the growing EV ecosystem.

Nagpur is set to host the highest number of stations, with 13 resorts on the list. Pune follows with nine, while Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg will each get 10. Seven stations will be developed in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and six in the Mumbai region. In Nashik, stations are planned at the scenic Gangapur Dam resorts, Bhandardara, and Shirdi.
MTDC has opened the door for private players by inviting Expressions of Interest (EoI), with the deadline set for June 4. The bidding process will begin the following day, on June 5. This initiative not only promotes sustainable travel but also enhances the overall experience for tourists using electric vehicles. By embracing green infrastructure, Maharashtra is taking a bold step toward cleaner mobility and responsible tourism.
