Security in the area was increased and a large-scale search was conducted in Dachigam and Nishat areas. However, the operation was called off on April 22 as nothing suspicious was found. On the same day, terrorists opened fire on tourists in the Baisran Valley in Pahalgam, killing 26 people.
Officials further said that two local terrorists mixed with tourists in Baisran. They opened fire and took some tourists to a food court complex where two other Pakistani terrorists were present. Together they killed 26 people.
Terrorists asked the tourists about their religion before killing them. The official said that the reason for the attack on the tourists was to create fear among the people and to provoke attacks on Kashmiri citizens by locals in other parts of the country.
