Mohol said, an OLS survey has been done for the expansion of the Pune airport runway. Meetings are underway with all departments accordingly. He said, approximately 200 acres of land are required for the runway expansion. In this, 25 acres of land has been demanded from the Conservation Department. In return, the Defense Conservation will get a different land. The Conservation Department has responded positively to this demand. Also, negotiations are underway regarding a private 65-acre land. The work of acquiring the land is the responsibility of the state government. The road adjacent to the airport will come within the airport area. An alternative road will have to be constructed for that road. The PMC will spend Rs 65 crore for this. Mohol also mentioned that there will be a separate arrangement for cargo.
Small cities are being connected to big cities under the ‘Uddan Yojana’. In the last two years, 1.5 crore passengers have travelled across the country under this scheme. This scheme will continue for the next 10 years. Muralidhar Mohol also expressed confidence that around 4 crore passengers will travel by air under this scheme in the next five years. He also clarified that there will be 400 airports in the country by 2047.
Pune metro is getting a good response. In the coming time, the metro network will be connected to the airport. Efforts will be made to connect the Khadakwasla to Kharadi metro route to the airport. Mahametro has been instructed to prepare a DPR in this regard.
