The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), in collaboration with the Indian Road Congress, has announced plans to remove 667 speed breakers.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), in collaboration with the Indian Road Congress, has announced plans to remove 667 speed breakers across the city. In the first phase of the initiative, 250 speed breakers were removed from various roads across the city.
The Municipal Corporation installed many speed bumps incorrectly in Pune, violating established guidelines. This is part of a broader effort to ease traffic congestion and enhance road safety, following concerns raised by commuters about the disruptive impact of excessive speed breakers. In response, the Municipal Administration has decided to remove these problematic bumps, starting the process of their removal to improve road safety and reduce driver inconvenience.

Pune Traffic Chaos: Holiday Rush and Roadwork Create Major Delays

The road and project departments of the Municipal Corporation installed various speed bumps across the city, but they placed many incorrectly, ignoring the guidelines set by the Indian Road Congress. These poorly planned bumps caused traffic jams and discomfort for drivers. Following citizen complaints and traffic branch concerns, the municipality has launched a campaign to remove these unscientific speed bumps to improve traffic flow and road safety.
The Pune Municipal Corporation lacks precise data on the number of speed bumps in Pune. With 1,400 kilometers of roads in the original city limits and an additional 500-600 kilometers from newly included villages, the municipality is conducting a survey to determine the total number of speed bumps across all roads. This effort aims to better manage road safety and traffic flow in the expanding city area.
